After finishing 12th in the Western Conference last season, 2nd year GM Joe Nieuwendyk and head coach Marc Crawford will attempt to guide the Stars back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in franchise history.
The team did not resign unrestricted FA Marty Turco and instead signed former Vancouver Canuck goalie Andrew Raycroft to back up goalie Kari Lehtonen who just signed a 3-year $10 million contract. Other notable free agents include Krys Barch, Maxime Fortunus and Nicklas Grossman.
In the 2010 NHL Draft held in Los Angeles, the Stars used their 1st round pick and selected G Jack Campbell (the 11th overall selection). With their second round pick, the Stars selected Swedish Defenceman Patrick Nemeth with the 41st overall selection. The team traded its third round pick (71st overall) to Colorado for a third and 4th round pick. The team used the Colorado third round pick to select LW Alexandr Guptill (77th overall selection) and its 4th round pick on D Alex Theriau. The teams final draft selection was on D John Klingberg (131st overall selection)
